Hotels at Lake Louise: sleeping next to the lakes

Lake Louise village has only a handful of hotels, but staying here means you can be at the lakeshore at sunrise, before the day crowds arrive.

The village of Lake Louise sits in the Bow Valley a few minutes below the famous lake. There are only a handful of hotels and lodges, from the historic hotel on the lakeshore to smaller lodges in the village, so availability is the main challenge.

Our top pick: Louise, Moraine, Bow, Emerald and Peyto: 4-Lake Tour

Lakeshore or village?

  • On the lakeshore: wake up to the lake and the glacier, walk out before anyone arrives. The most sought-after rooms in the Rockies; book very early.
  • In the village: a few minutes’ drive or shuttle ride from the lake, with more choice and lower prices.
  • Further out: Banff (40 minutes) or Field in Yoho National Park, across the border in British Columbia.

Sunrise first: with a room at Lake Louise, walk to the shore at dawn, then take a pre-booked shuttle to Moraine Lake while day visitors are still on the highway.
